💎 About Vaishno Devi Temple

The most visited pilgrimage site in North India, a cave shrine of Goddess Vaishnavi (Durga) in the Trikuta mountains of Jammu and Kashmir, drawing over 85 lakh pilgrims annually.

📜 History & Origin

Legend says Vaishno Devi was born as a young girl Vaishnavi to a pious man. She underwent severe tapasya and Vishnu directed her to reside in the Trikuta Hills. The demon Bhairavnath chased her and was beheaded at the cave entrance. The Bhairavnath temple at the top is also visited as part of the yatra. The Shrimat Raja Mata Shrine Board (SMVDSB) manages the shrine.

🏛 Architecture & Structure

Natural cave shrine (Garbh Joon) about 30 metres long. Inside are three naturally formed rock pindis (no sculpted idols) representing Mahakali, Mahasaraswati and Mahalakshmi. A new Bhawan (1999) with a larger darshan hall was built. The old cave darshan is offered separately. Aerial ropeway from Sanjichhat to Bhawan available.

🆣 Puja & Rituals

Continuous puja and darshan in the cave 24 hours. Maha Aarti at sunrise and sunset. Helicopter service from Katra to Sanjichhat (5 min flight) available for elderly and disabled. Special darshan for physically challenged pilgrims arranged by the board.
