A unique Shakti Peetha in Kangra where the goddess manifests as eternal blue flames emerging from the earth — no idol, just fire.
📜 History & Origin
The Pandavas are said to have worshipped here. Akbar sent an elaborate gold umbrella as an offering but the goddess melted it and returned it as an alloy (the umbrella is still displayed). Maharaja Ranjit Singh donated a gold dome. Emperor Akbar personally visited to test the flames, attempting to extinguish them with water - he failed and accepted her divinity.
🏛 Architecture & Structure
Unique temple with no sculpted idol. Natural blue flames emerge from crevices in the rock floor representing the nine forms of the goddess. The main flame burns in the garbhagriha. A gold dome covers the central flame chamber. The temple is built over the natural gas seepages that create the flames.
🆣 Puja & Rituals
Continuous aarti before the flames throughout the day. Havan and pinda puja available. The offering of charanamrit (water from the flame basin) is given to devotees. Special puja during both Navaratris.
