📜 History & Origin
The Godavari origination from this area is mentioned in the Ramayana and Mahabharata. Peshwa Balaji Rao (Nana Saheb) built the current magnificent temple between 1755-1786 CE. The Kushavarta Kund (sacred tank) where Godavari originates is adjacent to the temple. Kumbh Mela is held at Nashik (25 km) every 12 years.

Hemadpanthi style in black stone. The main hall is elaborately carved with deities, celestial beings and scenes from Puranas. The shikhara is 92 metres tall. The inner sanctum houses the unique three-faced Lingam. The Kushavarta Kund (tank) nearby is believed to be the actual source of the Godavari.
