📜 History & Origin
The sacred site was identified in ancient times. Raja Bir Chand is credited with establishing regular worship in the medieval period. The temple was damaged in a landslide in 1880 and subsequently rebuilt. After the Bhakra Dam construction created the Gobind Sagar Lake, the hilltop became an island-like promontory, making the site even more dramatic.
