📜Bhagiratha brings Ganga downभगीरथ गंगा को धरती पर लाए
The sixty thousand sons of King Sagara were burnt to ashes by the sage Kapila’s glance and could find no peace. Only the waters of the heavenly Ganga could free them. Generations of their descendants tried; at last King Bhagiratha’s long penance moved Brahma and Ganga to agree.
But Ganga’s fall would have shattered the earth. Bhagiratha prayed to Shiva, who caught the river in his matted locks and released her gently in streams. She followed Bhagiratha’s chariot to the sea, flowed over the ashes and freed his ancestors. That is why she is also called Bhagirathi.
राजा सगर के साठ हज़ार पुत्र कपिल मुनि की दृष्टि से भस्म हो गए और उन्हें शांति नहीं मिली। केवल स्वर्ग की गंगा का जल उनका उद्धार कर सकता था। कई पीढ़ियों ने प्रयास किया; अंत में राजा भगीरथ की लंबी तपस्या से ब्रह्मा और गंगा सहमत हुए।
पर गंगा के वेग से पृथ्वी टूट जाती। भगीरथ ने शिव की प्रार्थना की, जिन्होंने नदी को अपनी जटाओं में थाम लिया और धाराओं में धीरे-धीरे छोड़ा। गंगा भगीरथ के रथ के पीछे सागर तक गईं, भस्म पर बहीं और उनके पूर्वजों को मुक्त किया। इसीलिए उनका एक नाम भागीरथी है।
🔟The ten sinsदस पाप
The Skanda Purana lists the ten sins the day removes: three of the body (taking what is not given, violence, adultery), four of speech (harsh words, lies, slander, idle talk) and three of the mind (coveting others’ wealth, wishing harm, holding wrong views).
So people offer things in tens on this day — ten lamps, ten flowers, ten kinds of fruit, or ten dips in the river.
