🤫Why silenceमौन क्यों
“Mauni” comes from muni — the silent sage — and mauna, silence. Tradition holds that Manu, the first man, was born on this day, and that sages keep silence on it to turn the mind inward. Even a few hours of silence — especially until after the morning bath — is the core of the day.
The Puranas say the waters of the Ganga turn to nectar on Mauni Amavasya, which is why it is the greatest bathing day of the Kumbh at Prayagraj.

Begin silence as soon as you wake, and keep it at least until after snan — or for the whole day.

Bathe in a river or with Ganga jal at home in the snan muhurat (5:30 AM – 6:18 AM in New Delhi), then offer water to the sun.
