Kartikeya कार्तिकेय
Kartikeya — Skanda, Murugan, Subrahmanya — is the son of Shiva and Parvati and commander of the army of the gods, born to defeat the demon Tarakasura. Riding a peacock and holding the vel (spear), he is especially loved in Tamil Nadu, where his six abodes draw millions.

Who is Kartikeya?कार्तिकेय कौन हैं?
The gods needed a son of Shiva to defeat Tarakasura. Shiva’s fiery seed was carried by Agni and Ganga to a pond of reeds, where six babies were born and nursed by the six Krittika stars; Parvati gathered them into one child with six faces. He led the gods to victory — Skanda Shashti celebrates it.
Kalidasa’s Kumarasambhava ends with his birth. In Tamil devotion he is Murugan, god of the hills, beloved in the songs of Arunagirinathar; devotees carry kavadi on Thaipusam.
देवताओं को तारकासुर के वध के लिए शिव का पुत्र चाहिए था। शिव का तेज अग्नि और गंगा ने सरकंडों के सरोवर तक पहुँचाया, जहाँ छह शिशु जन्मे जिन्हें छह कृत्तिकाओं ने दूध पिलाया; पार्वती ने उन्हें छह मुख वाले एक बालक में मिला दिया। उन्होंने देवताओं को विजय दिलाई — स्कंद षष्ठी उसी का उत्सव है।

Teaching Om to Shivaशिव को ॐ का उपदेश
Young Murugan asked Brahma the meaning of Om; when Brahma could not explain it, Murugan imprisoned him. Shiva asked his son to explain it himself — and, sitting on Shiva’s lap, Murugan whispered the meaning, becoming Swaminatha, the teacher of his own father.
बालक मुरुगन ने ब्रह्मा से ॐ का अर्थ पूछा; ब्रह्मा न बता सके तो उन्होंने उन्हें बंदी बना लिया। शिव ने पुत्र से स्वयं अर्थ बताने को कहा — और शिव की गोद में बैठकर मुरुगन ने अर्थ फुसफुसाया, अपने ही पिता के गुरु स्वामीनाथ बन गए।
