🐘Why Sakat Chauth is observedसकट चौथ क्यों मनाई जाती है
Every Krishna Chaturthi is a Sankashti Chaturthi, dedicated to Ganesha as the remover of obstacles (sankat). The one in Magha is the most important: called Sakat Chauth, it is kept especially by mothers in North India for the protection and long life of their children.
Til (sesame) and jaggery are central — ground together into tilkut, they are offered to Ganesha and eaten as prasad. In some families a ‘tilkut bakra’ (a goat shaped from tilkut) is made and symbolically cut by a son or brother.
हर कृष्ण चतुर्थी संकष्टी चतुर्थी होती है, जो संकट हरने वाले गणेश जी को समर्पित है। माघ की चतुर्थी सबसे महत्त्वपूर्ण है: इसे सकट चौथ कहते हैं, और उत्तर भारत में माताएँ इसे विशेष रूप से संतान की रक्षा और लंबी आयु के लिए रखती हैं।
तिल और गुड़ इसके केंद्र में हैं — दोनों को कूटकर बना तिलकुट गणेश जी को अर्पित किया और प्रसाद के रूप में खाया जाता है। कुछ परिवारों में तिलकुट का ‘बकरा’ बनाया जाता है जिसे बेटा या भाई प्रतीकात्मक रूप से काटता है।
📜The vrat kathaव्रत कथा
A popular katha tells of a potter whose kiln would not fire. A priest advised him to sacrifice a child, and the only child he could take was the son of a poor old woman. That day was Sakat Chauth, and the mother, who was keeping the fast, prayed to Ganesha and Sakat Mata with all her heart.
When the kiln was opened the next morning, the pots had fired perfectly — and the boy was found alive and unharmed inside. The king and the town were astonished, and from then on mothers have kept the Sakat fast for the protection of their children.
एक प्रचलित कथा में एक कुम्हार का आवाँ (भट्टी) पक नहीं रहा था। पुरोहित ने उसे एक बालक की बलि देने की सलाह दी, और उसे एक गरीब बुढ़िया का बेटा ही मिला। उस दिन सकट चौथ थी, और व्रत रख रही माँ ने पूरे मन से गणेश जी और सकट माता से प्रार्थना की।
अगली सुबह आवाँ खोला गया तो बर्तन भली-भाँति पक गए थे — और बालक भीतर जीवित और सुरक्षित मिला। राजा और नगर चकित रह गए, और तभी से माताएँ संतान की रक्षा के लिए सकट का व्रत रखती हैं।
