The most important temple of the Nath Sampradaya tradition, seat of the Gorakhnath Math and home of the revered Nath Yogi tradition founded by Guru Gorakhnath.
📜 History & Origin
Guru Gorakhnath is believed to have lived here in the medieval period (10th-12th century CE). The Nath tradition predates formal Hinduism and combines elements of yoga, tantra and devotion. The current temple complex was expanded significantly by various Nath Mahants. The present Mahant Yogi Adityanath became Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in 2017, bringing the temple into national prominence.

Large temple complex with the main Gorakhnath shrine, a Shivalinga, various subsidiary shrines and the Math (monastery) buildings. The main sanctum has the footprints of Gorakhnath as the primary object of worship (his form is considered beyond physical idol worship). Large dharamshala for pilgrims. Famous Dham (sacred fire) burns continuously.
