📜 History & Origin

The temple is mentioned in ancient Puranas. It was worshipped by the sage Bharadwaja whose ashram was at Prayagraj. The Mughal period saw the temple being maintained by local devotees despite pressures. The temple gained renewed prominence after Indian independence. During Kumbh Mela crores of pilgrims visit the temple along with the Sangam.

🏛 Architecture & Structure

Classic North Indian Nagara style with a prominent shikhara. The sanctum houses the ancient Shivalinga. The temple complex has smaller shrines of Hanuman, Parvati and Navagrahas. Situated near the Yamuna riverfront.

Daily aartis at sunrise and sunset. Rudrabhishek puja available. Monday and Pradosh Vrat special pujas are especially attended.
