📜 History & Origin
The original temple built by Krishna grandson Vajranabh was demolished and rebuilt multiple times. Aurangzeb demolished the magnificent temple built by Bir Singh Deo in 1670 CE and built the Shahi Eidgah mosque adjacent to the birthplace. The current temple complex was built in 1958 by the Janmabhoomi Trust. A legal case regarding the adjacent mosque site is currently before Indian courts.
🏛 Architecture & Structure
Modern temple complex with the Keshav Dev Temple (main worship hall) and the Garbhagriha (birthplace cell). The prison cell is a small chamber with a low ceiling decorated with marble and gold leaf. Adjacent is the Bhagavat Bhavan with intricate marble carvings depicting Krishna leelas. The complex covers several acres with gardens, fountains and auxiliary shrines.

Mangala Aarti at 5:00 AM. Shringar and Raj Bhog during morning session. Evening aarti at 7:30 PM. Special Janmashtami midnight puja (Nishita Puja) is the most sacred. Abhishek of the Shivalinga in the birthplace cell available.
