What is Ekadashi?
Ekadashi ( ) falls on the 11th lunar day (tithi) of each fortnight -- twice a month, 24 times a year. Fasting on Ekadashi is one of the most meritorious vrats in Sanatan Dharma. It is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is said to purify the mind, body and soul, and grant liberation (moksha). In 2026 there is an Adhik Maas (extra lunar month), so there are 2 additional Ekadashis -- Padmini and Parama -- making it a particularly blessed year.
