🌕 What is Purnima?
Purnima (पूर्णिमा) is the full moon day — the 15th tithi of Shukla Paksha. It occurs once every lunar month and is considered highly auspicious in Sanatan Dharma. Holy dip in rivers, Satyanarayan puja, fasting, and charitable acts on Purnima yield immense spiritual merit. The moon at its fullest represents completeness, fulfilment and divine grace.
In 2026, there are 13 Purnimas instead of the usual 12 — because of Adhik Maas (extra lunar month). The additional Purnima falls on May 31, 2026. The next Purnima is Jyeshtha Purnima on Thursday, June 11, 2026.

🌙 Why Purnima is Spiritually Powerful
In Sanatan Dharma, the moon governs the human mind (manas). On Purnima, when the moon reaches its fullest state, emotional and mental energies become more active. This makes meditation, mantra chanting and spiritual practices more effective. Ancient sages considered this day ideal for inner purification, reflection and devotion.
The ocean's tides respond to the full moon — and since the human body is largely water, Purnima similarly amplifies inner energy. Fasting on this day helps the digestive system rest, the mind becomes calmer, and spiritual practices yield deeper results.
