Surya सूर्य
Surya is the Sun — the one god everyone can see, source of light, life and time. The Gayatri mantra is addressed to him as Savitar, Rama recited the Aditya Hridayam to him before battle, and Hindus greet him each morning with arghya (water offered at sunrise). Chhath and Makar Sankranti are his great festivals.

Who is Surya?सूर्य कौन हैं?
The Rig Veda praises Surya and Savitar in many hymns, and the Gayatri (3.62.10) — “we meditate on the radiance of Savitar; may he inspire our minds” — is the most chanted verse in Hinduism. Surya is also the king among the nine grahas, the father of Yama and Shani, and the source of the Solar (Suryavanshi) dynasty of Rama.
Morning arghya, Surya Namaskar and Sunday fasts keep his worship daily. His temples are fewer but magnificent — Konark’s stone chariot in Odisha and the Modhera Sun Temple in Gujarat — and Chhath on the Ganga ghats of Bihar is one of India’s most demanding fasts.

Rama and the Aditya Hridayamराम और आदित्य हृदय
Exhausted before his final duel with Ravana, Rama was approached by the sage Agastya, who taught him the Aditya Hridayam, a hymn to the Sun. Rama recited it three times, felt his strength return, and won.
