💎 About Khatu Shyamji Temple

A highly revered Krishna temple in Rajasthan where Barbarika (grandson of Bhima) is worshipped as Shyam, drawing millions of devotees especially on Ekadashi.

🏭

🕐 The Sacred Legend

Khatu Shyam is identified as Barbarika, grandson of Bhima and son of Ghatotkacha. He was the greatest warrior of the Mahabharata era — capable of ending the war in one minute. Lord Krishna, testing him, asked him to donate his head. Barbarika obliged. Krishna blessed him that in Kali Yuga he would be worshipped as Shyam (his own name) and all wishes of devotees would be fulfilled.

📜 History & Origin

After the Mahabharata war, Barbarika s head was buried at Khatu. In 1027 CE, a cow kept shedding milk on a spot in the ground — excavation revealed the head. The Raja of Khatu built the first temple. The current white marble temple was built in the 18th century. The idol is just the severed head of Barbarika displayed in a flower-decorated frame.
