एकैकमक्षरं पुंसां महापातकनाशनम् ॥ १॥
Ekaikamaksharam pumsam mahapatakanashanam 1
The story of Rama, lord of the Raghus, spreads across a hundred crore verses, and every single syllable of it destroys even the gravest sins.
रघुनाथ जी का चरित्र सौ करोड़ श्लोकों में फैला है, और उसका एक-एक अक्षर मनुष्यों के बड़े से बड़े पापों का नाश करता है।
जानकीलक्ष्मणोपेतं जटामुकुटमण्डितम् ॥ २॥
Janakilakshmanopetam jatamukutamanditam 2
Meditating on Rama — dark as the blue lotus, lotus-eyed, accompanied by Sita and Lakshmana, adorned with a crown of matted locks —
नील कमल जैसे श्याम, कमल नेत्र, सीता और लक्ष्मण के साथ, जटाओं के मुकुट से सुशोभित राम का ध्यान करके —
स्वलीलया जगत्त्रातुमाविर्भूतमजं विभुम् ॥ ३॥
Svalilaya jagattratumavirbhutamajam vibhum 3
holding sword, quiver, bow and arrows, destroyer of the night-wanderers, the unborn, all-pervading Lord who appeared by his own will to protect the world —
जो तलवार, तरकश, धनुष और बाण धारण करते हैं, निशाचरों का अंत करते हैं, और जगत की रक्षा के लिए अपनी लीला से प्रकट हुए अजन्मा, सर्वव्यापी प्रभु हैं —
शिरो मे राघवः पातु भालं दशरथात्मजः ॥ ४॥
Shiro me raghavah patu bhalam dasharathatmajah 4
let the wise recite the Rama Raksha, which removes sin and grants every wish. May Raghava protect my head, and the son of Dasharatha my forehead.
बुद्धिमान व्यक्ति पापों का नाश करने वाली और सब कामनाएँ पूरी करने वाली इस राम रक्षा का पाठ करे। राघव मेरे सिर की और दशरथ-पुत्र मेरे ललाट की रक्षा करें।
घ्राणं पातु मखत्राता मुखं सौमित्रिवत्सलः ॥ ५॥
Ghranam patu makhatrata mukham saumitrivatsalah 5
May Kausalya’s son protect my eyes, and Vishvamitra’s beloved my ears; may the protector of the sacrifice guard my nose, and he who loves Lakshmana my mouth.
कौसल्या-नंदन मेरे नेत्रों की, विश्वामित्र के प्रिय मेरे कानों की, यज्ञ-रक्षक मेरी नासिका की और लक्ष्मण-वत्सल मेरे मुख की रक्षा करें।
स्कन्धौ दिव्यायुधः पातु भुजौ भग्नेशकार्मुकः ॥ ६॥
Skandhau divyayudhah patu bhujau bhagneshakarmukah 6
May the treasury of knowledge protect my tongue, and he whom Bharata reveres my throat; may the bearer of divine weapons guard my shoulders, and he who broke Shiva’s bow my arms.
विद्या के भंडार मेरी जिह्वा की, भरत द्वारा वंदित मेरे कंठ की, दिव्य आयुधधारी मेरे कंधों की और शिव-धनुष तोड़ने वाले मेरी भुजाओं की रक्षा करें।
मध्यं पातु खरध्वंसी नाभिं जाम्बवदाश्रयः ॥ ७॥
Madhyam patu kharadhvamsi nabhim jambavadashrayah 7
May Sita’s lord protect my hands, and the conqueror of Parashurama my heart; may the slayer of Khara guard my middle, and the refuge of Jambavan my navel.
सीतापति मेरे हाथों की, परशुराम को जीतने वाले मेरे हृदय की, खर का संहार करने वाले मेरे मध्य भाग की और जाम्बवान के आश्रय मेरी नाभि की रक्षा करें।
ऊरू रघूत्तमः पातु रक्षःकुलविनाशकृत् ॥ ८॥
Uru raghuttamah patu rakshahkulavinashakrit 8
May the lord of Sugriva protect my waist, and Hanuman’s master my hips; may the best of the Raghus, destroyer of the rakshasa clans, protect my thighs.
सुग्रीव के स्वामी मेरी कमर की, हनुमान के प्रभु मेरे कूल्हों की, और राक्षस-कुल का नाश करने वाले रघुश्रेष्ठ मेरी जाँघों की रक्षा करें।
पादौ विभीषणश्रीदः पातु रामोऽखिलं वपुः ॥ ९॥
Padau vibhishanashridah patu ramokhilam vapuh 9
May the builder of the bridge protect my knees, and the slayer of ten-headed Ravana my shins; may he who gave Vibhishana his fortune guard my feet, and may Rama protect my whole body.
सेतु बनाने वाले मेरे घुटनों की, दशमुख रावण का अंत करने वाले मेरी पिंडलियों की, विभीषण को ऐश्वर्य देने वाले मेरे चरणों की और राम मेरे पूरे शरीर की रक्षा करें।
स चिरायुः सुखी पुत्री विजयी विनयी भवेत् ॥ १०॥
Sa chirayuh sukhi putri vijayi vinayi bhavet 10
The virtuous one who recites this protection, filled with Rama’s strength, becomes long-lived, happy, blessed with children, victorious and humble.
जो पुण्यात्मा राम के बल से युक्त इस रक्षा का पाठ करता है, वह दीर्घायु, सुखी, संतानवान, विजयी और विनम्र होता है।
न द्रष्टुमपि शक्तास्ते रक्षितं रामनामभिः ॥ ११॥
Na drashtumapi shaktaste rakshitam ramanamabhih 11
Beings that roam the netherworld, the earth or the sky, and those that move in disguise, cannot even look upon one protected by the names of Rama.
पाताल, पृथ्वी और आकाश में विचरने वाले तथा छल से घूमने वाले जीव, राम नामों से रक्षित व्यक्ति को देख भी नहीं सकते।
नरो न लिप्यते पापैर्भुक्तिं मुक्तिं च विन्दति ॥ १२॥
Naro na lipyate papairbhuktim muktim cha vindati 12
One who remembers him as “Rama”, “Ramabhadra” or “Ramachandra” is not touched by sin and gains both worldly joy and liberation.
“राम”, “रामभद्र” या “रामचंद्र” कहकर स्मरण करने वाला मनुष्य पापों से लिप्त नहीं होता और भोग तथा मोक्ष दोनों पाता है।
यः कण्ठे धारयेत्तस्य करस्थाः सर्वसिद्धयः ॥ १३॥
Yah kanthe dharayettasya karasthah sarvasiddhayah 13
Whoever wears at the throat this protection by Rama’s name — the one mantra that conquers the world — holds every accomplishment in his hand.
जगत को जीतने वाले एकमात्र मंत्र राम नाम से रक्षित इस स्तोत्र को जो कंठ में धारण करता है, सब सिद्धियाँ उसके हाथ में रहती हैं।
अव्याहताज्ञः सर्वत्र लभते जयमङ्गलम् ॥ १४॥
Avyahatajnah sarvatra labhate jayamangalam 14
Whoever remembers this Rama Kavacha called “Vajra-panjara”, the diamond cage, has his word obeyed everywhere and gains victory and auspiciousness.
जो “वज्रपंजर” नाम के इस राम कवच का स्मरण करता है, उसकी आज्ञा हर जगह मानी जाती है और उसे विजय तथा मंगल प्राप्त होता है।
तथा लिखितवान्प्रातः प्रबुद्धो बुधकौशिकः ॥ १५॥
Tatha likhitavanpratah prabuddho budhakaushikah 15
As Shiva revealed this Rama Raksha in a dream, so Budha Kaushika wrote it down when he awoke in the morning.
जैसे भगवान शिव ने स्वप्न में यह राम रक्षा बताई, वैसे ही सुबह जागकर बुधकौशिक ऋषि ने इसे लिख दिया।
अभिरामस्त्रिलोकानां रामः श्रीमान्स नः प्रभुः ॥ १६॥
Abhiramastrilokanam ramah shrimansa nah prabhuh 16
Rama is the garden of wish-fulfilling trees, the end of all calamities, the delight of the three worlds — that glorious Rama is our Lord.
जो कल्पवृक्षों के उद्यान हैं, सब विपत्तियों का अंत करने वाले हैं, तीनों लोकों को आनंद देने वाले हैं — वे श्रीमान राम हमारे प्रभु हैं।
पुण्डरीकविशालाक्षौ चीरकृष्णाजिनाम्बरौ ॥ १७॥
Pundarikavishalakshau chirakrishnajinambarau 17
Young, handsome, gentle and mighty, with large eyes like white lotuses, dressed in bark and black deerskin —
तरुण, रूपवान, सुकुमार, महाबली, श्वेत कमल जैसे विशाल नेत्रों वाले, वल्कल और काले मृगचर्म धारण करने वाले —
पुत्रौ दशरथस्यैतौ भ्रातरौ रामलक्ष्मणौ ॥ १८॥
Putrau dasharathasyaitau bhratarau ramalakshmanau 18
living on fruits and roots, self-controlled, ascetics, celibates — these two sons of Dasharatha, the brothers Rama and Lakshmana —
फल-मूल खाने वाले, संयमी, तपस्वी, ब्रह्मचारी — ये दशरथ के दोनों पुत्र, भाई राम और लक्ष्मण —
रक्षःकुलनिहन्तारौ त्रायेतां नो रघूत्तमौ ॥ १९॥
Rakshahkulanihantarau trayetam no raghuttamau 19
refuge of all beings, foremost of all archers, destroyers of the rakshasa clans — may these two best of the Raghus protect us.
सब प्राणियों को शरण देने वाले, सब धनुर्धरों में श्रेष्ठ, राक्षस-कुल का नाश करने वाले — ये दोनों रघुश्रेष्ठ हमारी रक्षा करें।
रक्षणाय मम रामलक्ष्मणावग्रतः पथि सदैव गच्छताम् ॥ २०॥
Rakshanaya mama ramalakshmanavagratah pathi sadaiva gachchhatam 20
With bows strung and hands on their arrows, carrying quivers of unfailing swift shafts, may Rama and Lakshmana always walk ahead of me on my path to protect me.
धनुष चढ़ाए, बाण पर हाथ रखे, अक्षय बाणों वाले तरकश धारण किए राम और लक्ष्मण मेरी रक्षा के लिए सदा मार्ग में मेरे आगे चलें।
गच्छन्मनोरथोऽस्माकं रामः पातु सलक्ष्मणः ॥ २१॥
Gachchhanmanorathosmakam ramah patu salakshmanah 21
Armed and armoured, with sword, bow and arrows, youthful, going forth as our heart’s desire — may Rama protect us, together with Lakshmana.
कवच पहने, तलवार, धनुष और बाण धारण किए, युवा, हमारे मनोरथ के रूप में चलने वाले राम लक्ष्मण सहित हमारी रक्षा करें।
काकुत्स्थः पुरुषः पूर्णः कौसल्येयो रघूत्तमः ॥ २२॥
Kakutsthah purushah purnah kausalyeyo raghuttamah 22
Rama, son of Dasharatha, the brave and strong one followed by Lakshmana; Kakutstha, the complete Person, Kausalya’s son, best of the Raghus;
दशरथ-पुत्र, शूरवीर, लक्ष्मण जिनके अनुचर हैं, बलवान, काकुत्स्थ, पूर्ण पुरुष, कौसल्या-नंदन, रघुश्रेष्ठ राम —
जानकीवल्लभः श्रीमानप्रमेयपराक्रमः ॥ २३॥
Janakivallabhah shrimanaprameyaparakramah 23
known through Vedanta, lord of sacrifice, the ancient supreme Person, beloved of Janaki, glorious, of immeasurable valour —
वेदांत से जानने योग्य, यज्ञों के स्वामी, पुराण पुरुषोत्तम, जानकी-वल्लभ, श्रीमान और अपार पराक्रम वाले —
अश्वमेधाधिकं पुण्यं सम्प्राप्नोति न संशयः ॥ २४॥
Ashvamedhadhikam punyam samprapnoti na samshayah 24
my devotee who recites these names daily with faith gains merit greater than the Ashvamedha sacrifice; of this there is no doubt.
मेरा जो भक्त श्रद्धा से इन नामों का प्रतिदिन जप करता है, वह अश्वमेध यज्ञ से भी अधिक पुण्य पाता है, इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं।
स्तुवन्ति नामभिर्दिव्यैर्न ते संसारिणो नराः ॥ २५॥
Stuvanti namabhirdivyairna te samsarino narah 25
Those who praise with divine names Rama — dark as a blade of durva grass, lotus-eyed, clothed in yellow — are no longer bound to the cycle of birth.
दूर्वा दल जैसे श्याम, कमल नेत्र, पीतांबरधारी राम की जो दिव्य नामों से स्तुति करते हैं, वे संसार के बंधन में नहीं रहते।
काकुत्स्थं करुणार्णवं गुणनिधिं विप्रप्रियं धार्मिकम् ।
राजेन्द्रं सत्यसन्धं दशरथतनयं श्यामलं शान्तमूर्तिं
वन्दे लोकाभिरामं रघुकुलतिलकं राघवं रावणारिम् ॥ २६॥
Kakutstham karunarnavam gunanidhim viprapriyam dharmikam
Rajendram satyasandham dasharathatanayam shyamalam shantamurtim
Vande lokabhiramam raghukulatilakam raghavam ravanarim 26
I bow to Rama, elder brother of Lakshmana, best of the Raghus, Sita’s handsome lord; Kakutstha, ocean of compassion, treasury of virtues, dear to the learned, righteous; king of kings, true to his word, son of Dasharatha, dark and serene in form — the delight of the world, jewel of the Raghu line, Raghava, the enemy of Ravana.
लक्ष्मण के बड़े भाई, रघुकुल में श्रेष्ठ, सीतापति, सुंदर, काकुत्स्थ, करुणा के सागर, गुणों के भंडार, ब्राह्मणों के प्रिय, धर्मात्मा, राजाओं के राजा, सत्यप्रतिज्ञ, दशरथ-नंदन, श्याम वर्ण, शांत मूर्ति, लोकों को आनंद देने वाले, रघुकुल-तिलक, रावण के शत्रु राघव की मैं वंदना करता हूँ।
रघुनाथाय नाथाय सीतायाः पतये नमः ॥ २७॥
Raghunathaya nathaya sitayah pataye namah 27
Salutations to Rama, to Ramabhadra, to Ramachandra, the creator; to the lord of the Raghus, the Lord, the husband of Sita.
राम, रामभद्र, रामचंद्र, विधाता, रघुनाथ, प्रभु और सीतापति को नमस्कार।
श्रीराम राम भरताग्रज राम राम ।
श्रीराम राम रणकर्कश राम राम
श्रीराम राम शरणं भव राम राम ॥ २८॥
Shrirama rama bharatagraja rama rama
Shrirama rama ranakarkasha rama rama

Shri Rama, Rama, joy of the Raghus, Rama, Rama; Shri Rama, Rama, elder brother of Bharata, Rama, Rama; Shri Rama, Rama, fierce in battle, Rama, Rama; Shri Rama, Rama, be my refuge, Rama, Rama.
हे श्रीराम, रघुनंदन राम; हे श्रीराम, भरत के बड़े भाई राम; हे श्रीराम, रण में कठोर राम; हे श्रीराम, मेरे शरणदाता बनिए।
श्रीरामचन्द्रचरणौ वचसा गृणामि ।
श्रीरामचन्द्रचरणौ शिरसा नमामि

Shriramachandracharanau sharanam prapadye 29
I remember the feet of Shri Ramachandra with my mind; I praise the feet of Shri Ramachandra with my speech; I bow my head to the feet of Shri Ramachandra; I take refuge in the feet of Shri Ramachandra.
मैं श्री रामचंद्र के चरणों का मन से स्मरण करता हूँ, वाणी से उनका गुणगान करता हूँ, सिर झुकाकर उन्हें प्रणाम करता हूँ और उनकी शरण लेता हूँ।
स्वामी रामो मत्सखा रामचन्द्रः ।
सर्वस्वं मे रामचन्द्रो दयालुः
नान्यं जाने नैव जाने न जाने ॥ ३०॥
Svami ramo matsakha ramachandrah
Sarvasvam me ramachandro dayaluh
Nanyam jane naiva jane na jane 30
Rama is my mother, Ramachandra my father; Rama is my master, Ramachandra my friend; compassionate Ramachandra is my everything — I know no other, none at all.
राम मेरी माता हैं, रामचंद्र मेरे पिता; राम मेरे स्वामी हैं, रामचंद्र मेरे सखा; दयालु रामचंद्र ही मेरा सर्वस्व हैं — मैं किसी और को नहीं जानता, बिल्कुल नहीं।
पुरतो मारुतिर्यस्य तं वन्दे रघुनन्दनम् ॥ ३१॥
Purato marutiryasya tam vande raghunandanam 31
I bow to the joy of the Raghus, with Lakshmana at his right, Janaka’s daughter at his left and Hanuman before him.
जिनके दाईं ओर लक्ष्मण, बाईं ओर जनकनंदिनी सीता और सामने हनुमान हैं, उन रघुनंदन की मैं वंदना करता हूँ।
राजीवनेत्रं रघुवंशनाथम् ।
कारुण्यरूपं करुणाकरं तं
श्रीरामचन्द्रं शरणं प्रपद्ये ॥ ३२॥
Rajivanetram raghuvamshanatham
Karunyarupam karunakaram tam
Shriramachandram sharanam prapadye 32
I take refuge in Shri Ramachandra — the delight of the world, steadfast on the battlefield, lotus-eyed, lord of the Raghu dynasty, compassion in form, the source of mercy.
लोकों को आनंद देने वाले, रणभूमि में धीर, कमल नेत्र, रघुवंश के स्वामी, करुणा की मूर्ति और दया के भंडार श्री रामचंद्र की मैं शरण लेता हूँ।
जितेन्द्रियं बुद्धिमतां वरिष्ठम् ।
वातात्मजं वानरयूथमुख्यं
श्रीरामदूतं शरणं प्रपद्ये ॥ ३३॥
Jitendriyam buddhimatam varishtham
Vatatmajam vanarayuthamukhyam
Shriramadutam sharanam prapadye 33
I take refuge in the messenger of Shri Rama — swift as thought, fast as the wind, master of the senses, foremost of the wise, son of the wind god, chief of the monkey hosts.
मन जैसी गति वाले, वायु जैसे वेगवान, जितेंद्रिय, बुद्धिमानों में श्रेष्ठ, पवनपुत्र, वानर सेना के प्रमुख श्रीराम दूत हनुमान की मैं शरण लेता हूँ।
आरुह्य कविताशाखां वन्दे वाल्मीकिकोकिलम् ॥ ३४॥
Aruhya kavitashakham vande valmikikokilam 34
I bow to Valmiki, the cuckoo who, perched on the branch of poetry, sings sweetly the sweet syllables “Rama, Rama”.
कविता की डाल पर बैठकर “राम राम” के मधुर अक्षर मधुरता से गाने वाली वाल्मीकि रूपी कोयल की मैं वंदना करता हूँ।
लोकाभिरामं श्रीरामं भूयो भूयो नमाम्यहम् ॥ ३५॥
Lokabhiramam shriramam bhuyo bhuyo namamyaham 35
Again and again I bow to Shri Rama, the delight of the world, who takes away all calamities and gives every kind of prosperity.
विपत्तियों को हरने वाले, सब संपत्तियाँ देने वाले, लोकों को आनंद देने वाले श्रीराम को मैं बार-बार नमस्कार करता हूँ।
तर्जनं यमदूतानां रामरामेति गर्जनम् ॥ ३६॥
Tarjanam yamadutanam ramarameti garjanam 36
The roar of “Rama, Rama” roasts the seeds of worldly bondage, gathers happiness and wealth, and drives away the messengers of Yama.
“राम राम” की गर्जना संसार के बीजों को भून देती है, सुख-संपत्ति अर्जित कराती है और यमदूतों को भगा देती है।
रामेणाभिहता निशाचरचमू रामाय तस्मै नमः ।
रामान्नास्ति परायणं परतरं रामस्य दासोऽस्म्यहं
रामे चित्तलयः सदा भवतु मे भो राम मामुद्धर ॥ ३७॥
Ramenabhihata nishacharachamu ramaya tasmai namah
Ramannasti parayanam parataram ramasya dasosmyaham
Rame chittalayah sada bhavatu me bho rama mamuddhara 37
Rama, jewel among kings, is ever victorious; I worship Rama, lord of Lakshmi. By Rama the armies of the night-wanderers were slain; salutations to that Rama. There is no refuge higher than Rama; I am Rama’s servant. May my mind always be absorbed in Rama — O Rama, lift me up.
राजाओं में मणि राम सदा विजयी हैं; मैं लक्ष्मीपति राम को भजता हूँ। राम ने निशाचरों की सेना का संहार किया; उन राम को नमस्कार। राम से बड़ा कोई आश्रय नहीं; मैं राम का दास हूँ। मेरा चित्त सदा राम में लीन रहे — हे राम, मेरा उद्धार कीजिए।
सहस्रनाम तत्तुल्यं रामनाम वरानने ॥ ३८॥
Sahasranama tattulyam ramanama varanane 38
(Shiva to Parvati:) O lovely one, I delight in Rama, repeating “Rama, Rama, Rama”; the name of Rama alone equals the thousand names of Vishnu.
(शिव जी पार्वती से:) हे सुमुखी, मैं “राम राम राम” कहते हुए मनोहर राम में रमता हूँ; राम नाम विष्णु सहस्रनाम के समान है।
